Vote for 3A for CCV by Mail by Nov. 6, 2007

The Always Believe in Children drive (ABCd) is a volunteer group dedicated to passage of Ballot Issue 3A, a bond issue to fund health and safety improvements at Cripple Creek-Victor High School, in Cripple Creek, Colorado. Have you heard about 3A? I hope so!

What you may already know is that 3A addresses health and safety concerns in our Junior/Senior High School. These concerns include adding currently absent fire alarm and sprinkler systems, removing asbestos, updating inefficient lighting, replacing rotting windows, and balancing mechanical systems to achieve effective heating. Futher elements are designed to achieve ADA compliance, add security entries and monitors for safety, and standardize classroom and circulation areas to meet current code. This is a $10.9 million bond that will cost the owner of a $100,000 home just $1.65 per month.

What you may not know is that this is the third try to pass a school bond initiative to address the problems in our secondary building. In order to get it right this time, the School Board formed a Health and Safety Committee over a year and a half ago to analyze the true needs. With these needs identified, we worked with staff, administration and community as well as the Fire Department, architect, contractor and design consultants, over the course of the last year, to develop the most comprehensive yet conservative, complete yet cost-effective solution possible. Our solution is initiative 3A.

With a 30+ year old building, the needs are ongoing. The health and safety concerns are compounding. Construction costs alone are 40% higher than in 2005, when we tried to pass the last bond. The time to act is now. I would ask you, as a taxpayer and voter, to consider this not merely as an obligation to our students, which it is, but as an opportunity which will better our school district and community as a whole.
Please vote for 3A!
